Panel track blinds
Wide flat panels that slide across a track — the modern answer to a patio door, a wall of glass, or a room that needs dividing without construction.
What panel tracks are
Flat fabric panels, typically one to two feet wide, hung from carriers in a two, three or four channel track. They slide and overlap rather than tilt, so the opening is either covered, partly covered, or stacked clear.
Where they work
- Patio and sliding doors, where a single roller or Roman cannot span the opening.
- Walls of glass in modern builds and condos.
- Room dividers on a ceiling-mounted track.
- Closet and storage openings, in place of bifold doors.
Fabric and configuration
The same fabric families as roller shades apply: solar screen for glare with a view, light filtering for daytime privacy, room darkening for bedrooms. Panels can split to both sides, stack entirely left or right, or run on a curved track around a corner.
What to compare in the photos
- Panel width and how many panels cover the opening.
- Where the stack lands when fully open.
- Track exposure — bare track, valance, or ceiling recessed.
- Overlap between panels and how much light passes at the joins.
Frequently asked questions
- What are panel track blinds?
- Wide flat fabric panels that slide across a multi-channel track, overlapping as they stack. They cover the same openings as vertical blinds but read as a series of large panels rather than many vanes.
- Panel tracks or vertical blinds for a patio door?
- Panel tracks look more contemporary and have no vanes to rattle, but they do not tilt — you slide them open or leave them closed. Verticals give finer light control on the same opening.
- Can panel tracks be used as a room divider?
- Yes. A ceiling-mounted track with opaque panels is a common way to close off a home office nook or a loft sleeping area without building a wall.
- How much wall space does the stack need?
- Each panel stacks behind the last, so the open stack is roughly one panel width plus overlap. That stack has to land somewhere — photos of the open position show whether it clears the door.
